It's been too long since I've posted, I'm sat here currently with a head full of cold and a hair full of bleach wishing I'd kept this thing much more updated over the summer, it's almost over too, with just a week left til we return to Uni I'm wishing I'd escaped and actually gone on holiday this summer rather than had to slave away at my job to fund myself throughout this next term.

We we're given the brief of choosing a partner to work with for the next project, we we're to look for someone that we could obviously work with, but also someone whoes skills we could use to our advantaged once brought together throughout the work.

I'm a type/layout-phobic so I decided to look for someone who was more skilled in that area rather than image based ( something I feel I'm more confident with)

My collaborative partner was Scott Berry ( see list of other blogs )

We chose to do a project based on the idea of " tell a convincing lie " . We came up with the idea of promoting lies, (white lies specifically) as if we believed that lieing was a decent thing to do, thus our 'beliefs' became the lie to convince.

We began by researching typical lies said, white lies.

Above, some of the post-its collected from surveying people what white lies they'd told.

So then, we began experimenting with these ideas.

Once again, I'm backtracking here, after the Book project, our next small brief was to create a sequence of posters to advertise its 'release', so below are my attempts. I used some of the 'pages' within the 'Books' to create the imagery within the poster to tease rather than to simply reveal instantly.

Okay, new project, we we're given each a profession at random, and assigned a brief to create a mail shot to promote said profession, it had to include; an envelope, a buisness card and one other 'graphic device'.

I was given 'hairdresser'.

So rather than a typical Toni & guy style hairdressers to promote I decided to go with a more classic barber shop feel, Sweeney Todd, 40s/50s throwback salon to promote.

The Book of 100 Dreams & Nightmares

The final peice itself, packaged as a set of gift boxes secured with ribbon, one black and one white, one representing the collected nightmares, the other representing the collected dreams.

I think the collage works well, something quite simple, yet by adding suitable marks and combined with the type, becomes much more effective.

Aswell as collecting dreams, I've been collecting nightmares aswell, asking for all types of recollections from all types of people so I can gather a varied amount, looking at the surreal content of some of the dreams, and often the quite scary content of nightmares, I wanted to feature work by photographer Jan Dumming, her surreal images are created using a colour pinhole camera.

Continuing displaying some of the work from the Book project that I haven't got round to putting up yet, phewwww, i've got a lot to put up, aswell as projects done since.

I ended up changing my idea from a 100 poses to 100 dreams and nightmares.

Below, I decided to experiment with creating some shots using photography to develop my ideas of the dreams and nightmares, as if to imply their content was having a serious effect on the induvidual.

Normally I'm not big on graffitti work, but with Miss Van as an exception, I love her use of girlish colours within her work and the use of animals alongside the snubnosd femmes in the peices.

As I've always been more on the illustration side of the fence, I've never so far wandered over to the typography side of it, but I can't avoid it forever, I need to meet my 'fear' of type on, and grow to love it, like an ugly dog.

Funnily enough, I wasn't aware I was a fan of David's work or owned any prints of it exactly until recently when I was searching through my cds and came across Deerhoof-Friend Oppourtunity ( I suggest you listen), I've always gone a bit " aww " and " neat " at the artwork used on it, I ended up flipping through the cd sleeve (why I hadn't investigated this before is beyond me) and out slipped a collection of post card style illustrations matching those on the main cd sleeve, and low and behold, the work of Mr Shrigley, enlightened I searched more online and grew more favourable of his style and wit, the postcards are firmly stuck on the wall next to my bed now, quirky faces and all.

Haven't posted in a while, so the next few posts are a catchup of recent work from the past few weeks just to get it all up to date on here ready for the next few projects!

Continuing with the Book of 100, which in turn for me became a collection of 100 dreams & nightmares.

I decided to try and use myself as model for the photos of the poses that I wished to photograph, but I felt restricted as I couldn't have complete creative control over what was going on behind the camera aswell as infront, so I changed my idea, and begin collecting dreams/nightmares. These were collected through asking people, and people posting them on the group I set up online, all primary research to gather the information.

Below, some of the scans of some of the initial research and work created for this brief, I had started off with the ideas of poses, to create a selection of a 100 different poses each summed up with one single word, inspired by the video posted previously.

For this brief, I've chosen to work with figure drawings, as personally I find it more interesting that focussing on objects etc, so I'm looking at the figure in composition along with other figures, think queues, crowds, poses etc.

Okay, new project, reading work starting aswell.

Basically the idea of 100, I've already begun to think of possibilities for the 100, I'm assuming this is going to link to the 'Book of 100' that the previous first years did that I recall from the induction days.

I have a few ideas floating around, currently thinking since I'd like to use alot more photography in this project since I've got my lovely new digital camera to do something to do with expressions, body language and poses.

Not to constantly milk music videos, but this is food for thought regarding poses.

Projections etc, a trip we took, to Sheffield, I visited the Millenium gallery and the Greaves, I discovered the work of Sophie Lascelles who I instantly took a liking too. Below her work entitled ' The Knoll' that was feature in the Greaves gallery, a film on a loop projected onto a background with cut out trees & folliage, an attempt at recreating part of a memory.

Playing around with the projector on my current project, was interesting to see my work at a different scale, I'd like to use this again but experiment more with more visual backgrounds and enviroments and seeing how they effect what is being projected.

Well, its been a long long time since my last post, I need to remember to keep updating this thing rather than just letting it fall to the back of my mind.

Created as a result of research into favourite subjects, those of our own and others, I got 'comics' in the end, which lead onto 'heroes' so I decide to look at heroes in a different light, rather than just bulging muscles in lycra, perhaps doctors, nurses etc.

I seem to be getting way more excited by the idea of halloween on the horizon alot more than anyone else, probably to the point where it's becoming annoying. I made a plan for this evening that I'd attempt to create my outfit, you know, free time and all, use it well, but I failed miserabley and just opted to sit in my bed, like I did all day yesterday.

Money's becoming an issue, due to my poor impulse-buy control I'm left with just over £30 for three weeks, a test of self restraint concerning drinking, eating, & other costly leisurely activities is definately on the cards. This can only make me stronger.

I miss home, something eventful needs to be going down in Grimsby so I can justify spending money on travelling home, unless I can somehow bribe/guilt trip my parents in to bringing me back.

I should be working really, or sleeping, but isketch is a foul temptress. Grrr
